Barrack Obama...First Black President?

The 2008 Presdiential Election has gotten well under way. Hilary has suspended her campaign, McCain is the Republican frontrunner, and Obama is the Democratic hopeful! All this has transpired but one question still lingers....Why does Obama run as a black candidate?

Obama was born in Honolulu, HI, to an American white mother and a Kenyan father in 1961. When he was two-years-old, his father left and he was raised by his mother, and eventually his maternal grandparents. Now running as the nominee to be the first black president, is he not denying his own mother and grandparents whom raised him?

Why not run as multi-racial?- a label that would probably be more befitting of a uniter. Does running as a black candidate garner him more votes or bring more attention to his campaign? Maybe he just identifies with his African-American side moreso than his white side. I've also heard the argument that if you are not white in this country, you are 'black'- meaning that whites only see others with a little ethnic blood in them as that race only; for example, if a kid is half white, half-Chinese, most of the time he will be referred to as the Asian kid. The same can go for blacks too- when Tiger Woods told the media to stop reffereing to him only as black because he was also asian- many African-Americans were offended.

Maybe we shouldn't be so caught up on race...maybe we should give our attention to the simpler things in life. Self-serving politicians aren't concerned with our real problems in life....tell that to the Korean soap opera couple. Ask them who they are voting for. Can 'Barrack Obama', 'John McCain', 'PlaceNameHere', heal their heartache? Think about that before you cast your ballot.
