Daniel Libeskind in NYC

Daniel Libeskind Architects has just revealed the new design for a residential tower in NYC, just blocks away from the already revealed skyscrapers by Herzog/Meuron and OMA.  This glass tower would showcase "a glass-tube-enclosed vertical garden going the full length of the tower through its center."

"Apart from giving fresh air to the people living or working in the tower, the open spaces designed for the sky gardens and the vertical farm will also ensure maximum utilization of the natural lighting, which would reduce the energy requirements of the building. The design has not yet been approved, but will definitely improve New York’s skyline if it is actually built."

In my opinion, the building resembles something closer to what Ken Yeang would design rather than what we've grown accustomed from Libeskind.  Maybe it's the vertical gardens or the subtlety of the glass skin, but I actually like this attempt to become sustainable in part of Libeskind.

does anybody remember 'sky-city'...that vertical city thing that was proposed for tokyo a few years back? this reminds me of that but at a smaller scale.
