C'était un Rendez-Vous - 1976 French Film

Your browser is not able to display this multimedia content.

Director/driver: Claude Lelouch
Run Time: 9 min

Translates into "It Was an Appointment." It is one the most classic/controversial short films. Its a fast pace film seen through the eyes of the driver, cruising through Paris streets at 140mph with his 275GTB Ferrari early in the morning.

Trivia
  • The car that was used in the filming was a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL and the sound of 275GTB Ferrari was dubbed.
  • Some independent groups calculated the car never exceeded 85mph which the director denies.
  • Lelouch was arrested shortly after the film was screened but was later released without charge.
  • Three people were in the car, with Claude Lelouch at the wheel

Chevy Volt: Our Apollo Project

The Atlantic this month has a feature story about the development of the electric-gas hybrid the volt. This car, besides being one of the sexiest concepts I have seen in years, will revolutionize the car industry and perhaps the energy equation as well. If you want to read the compelling story about this apollo project in the makign check out the story here.

. . .the article in the atlantic about this really is great even though reporter seems to feed into the amaturish political marketing frenzy as of late

BMW GINA - Redefining Skin and Form on Cars

BMW have unveiled their concept car GINA which rethinks the notion of an external hard shell. The body is made from a seamless polyurethane-coated Lycra fabric stretched over a moveable aluminum frame allowing the owner to change the car's shape. Purely conceptual, there is no intention of this technology ever going into production.

GINA (Geometry and functions In 'N' Adaptions) has been in development for six years, the working model is built on a Z8 chassis and has four panels which take about two hours to put on.

Chevy Volt: The Sexy New GM Plug-In Hybrid

It looks like GM has one upped Toyota in at least this round announcing its own supercar thats not only a hybrid but a plug in hybrid. The car although only a concept at this point can run singularly off its electric motor for over 60 miles. This driving length would make it possible for the average American to drive their commute without ever using a drop of gas. For longer trips the Volt is able to run not only on petroleum derived oil but is e85 flexible meaning that it can run on on a mix of 85% ethanol.

HopStop

With the boys in Boston i thought it would be fitting to pass along the site know has HopStop. HopStop is mapquest for subways. Put in where you need to go and HopStop will tell you what stations and rail lines will get you there. Right now it works for the subway lines in Boston, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, and DC. Maybe while the crew is in Boston it can test it out for all CR readers.
