BMW GINA - Redefining Skin and Form on Cars

BMW have unveiled their concept car GINA which rethinks the notion of an external hard shell. The body is made from a seamless polyurethane-coated Lycra fabric stretched over a moveable aluminum frame allowing the owner to change the car's shape. Purely conceptual, there is no intention of this technology ever going into production.

GINA (Geometry and functions In 'N' Adaptions) has been in development for six years, the working model is built on a Z8 chassis and has four panels which take about two hours to put on.

Chevy Volt: The Sexy New GM Plug-In Hybrid

It looks like GM has one upped Toyota in at least this round announcing its own supercar thats not only a hybrid but a plug in hybrid. The car although only a concept at this point can run singularly off its electric motor for over 60 miles. This driving length would make it possible for the average American to drive their commute without ever using a drop of gas. For longer trips the Volt is able to run not only on petroleum derived oil but is e85 flexible meaning that it can run on on a mix of 85% ethanol.

Transparent Rims - Forgiato Radurra

These have to be the tightest rims or maybe the absence of having a rim is cool. Now you can see your brake calipers in action. This is the Forgiato Radurra, Radurra is italian for clear. This rim brought Forgiato back to their days of jewelry making, because the same technique as placing a diamond into a bezel. The technique is bexel setting is where the diamonds are just slightly larger than the bezel they are set into, and held in place by pressure, only a master diamond setter has the ability to do this. The same logic was placed on the rim. These baby retail for $5,000 each rim.

Maybe I Will Park it Myself - Lexus LS460

Apparently the Lexus LS460 (the self parking car) isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. Automobile magazine attempts to park the car, video results are at the link.

Lamborghini Police Car

Some European highways are designed for speed and there is no speed limits in certain areas. This Lamborghini Police Car is probably the best way to discourage anyone from a police chase. I just wish the cops around the world will one day have the same type of tools. It just looks too good.
