Low brow tactics and

Low brow tactics and avoiding the issues, all in the name of adding a little "humor" into the campaign are typical GOP tactics. Would Obama change everything that is wrong in this country? NO. He most likely couldn't change 99% percent of it. But's atleast he's offering a new perspective and plan. One that is not overestimating our economic power and position here in America and military might abroad. If the GOP wants to talk about hopeful but, unlikely rhetoric, Let's start with the Bush (and McCain) plan for global democracy in the vain of American ideals. That's just something that is not possible for the US to spread all by itself. The world has changed, the US must change with. Now that's straight talk.

Amusing post. Perhaps a

Amusing post. Perhaps a counterpoint to the counterpoint is needed.

1. Privatization of Prisons-Although I can imagine nothing greater than prisoners providing for their own expenses the assumptions made within this statement are entirely unfounded. Currently, depending on the facility, incarceration costs between 30,000 to as high as 100,000(the lower end is more common) per prisoner per year. And while a federal court ruled that it is legal to hire private contractors to manage prisons (Medina V Oneill) work programs within the US remain voluntary. In addition goods made from within the prison are not allowed to be sold out of state and are used for gov't items such as license plates not creating competition for unionized labor(as was feared in the late 19th century).

2. Racial Profiling-His only statement regarding racial profiling was how upset he was with a mandate given down by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. Michael Nutter is a black democrat supporting Obama. What exactly would electing Obama do about that.

3. Rockefeller drug laws- Did not differentiate between grades of narcotics but did for the first time mandate drug sentencing more similar to violent crimes. Since this is a state law Obama would have little to no impact on this. Although it should be said that getting rid of mandatory sentencing for drug abuses would avoid many of the problems related to the prison industry and his first point.

All in all what would Obama do about any of this. . . .nothing was mentioned. It seemed like somebody ranting about problems believing that perhaps Obama was The One to solve all ills.
